An ADC is used to sample the waveform before and after the known impedance and is presented to the DSP for further processing. However, this block diagram disguises a number of fundamental challenges. First, the ADC must sample synchronously across all frequencies so as both the excitation and response waveform can be compared to allow full phase information to be obtained. Having this process optimized is the key to overall system performance.
