The above diagram shows a method of achieving the correct peak-to-peak signal (i.e. achieving 200mV p-p at VDD/2) while maintaining the VDD/2 bias by selecting Range 1, which is twice Vp-p, for measuring impedances between the range and feeding the signal through the external amplifier. Therefore, a ratio of R1/R2 that attenuates the excitation voltage at Vout must be chosen. With the values of R1=4K and R2=20K, the signal will be attenuated by 1⁄5th (1/5th of 2Vp-p=400 mV). Therefore, the maximum current flowing through the impedance will be 400mv/90Ω or 4.4ma.
