There is a clear market trend for power supplies with lower standby power consumption and high-efficiency. This trend is driven by the Energy Star regulations for energy efficiency, and promoted by the power supply manufacturers for green and small-sized power adapters. Like all GreenChip controller ICs, the TEA172x series provides all the features enabling small size power supplies and USB chargers, with ultra-low no-load power consumption, in a cost-effective way. Building a 5 W power supply with standby power levels below 10 mW is possible with the TEA1721, thanks to the built-in advanced control modes to achieve ultra-low current consumption in no-load condition. Complete with integrated MOSFET in a 7-pin SO package, the TEA172x products enable small size power supplies with low system cost and a small number of external components.
